Lenalid is used in the treatment of multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. It enhances the immune system, which indirectly attacks the cancer cells. Lenalidomide 10mg Capsule prevents the growth of new blood vessels within the tumor. Lenalid works by restricting the production of chemical messengers (cytokine and growth factor) which are responsible for the growth of cancer cells.

Lenalid can be taken with or without food. It is advised to take Lenalid at the same time every day. The capsules should not be opened, broken, or chewed. Lenalid is not recommended for use during pregnancy as well as in patients less than 18 years of age.

Many other medicines can affect or be affected by this medicine. Therefore, make sure to tell your doctor about the medicines you take.

The active ingredient in Lenalid is Lenalidomide.

Lenalidomide 10mg Capsule, a thalidomide analogue, is an immunomodulatory agent possessing immunomodulatory and antiangiogenic properties. Lenalidomide works to inhibit the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines and increases the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines from peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Lenalidomide inhibits cell proliferation with varying effectiveness (IC50s) in some but not all cell lines. Lenalidomide is effective in inhibiting the growth of Namalwa cells (a human B cell lymphoma cell line with a deletion of one chromosome 5) but is much less effective in inhibiting the growth of KG-1 cells (human myeloblastic cell line, also with a deletion of one chromosome 5) and other cell lines without chromosome 5 deletions. It does not prolong the QTc interval.

Effect On Cardiac Repolarization

An examination of the effect of lenalidomide on corrected QT (QTc) intervals was conducted in healthy males who received a single oral dose each of 10 mg lenalidomide, 50 mg lenalidomide, 400 mg moxifloxacin (positive control), and placebo, in a random order. As expected, moxifloxacin significantly prolonged QTc. For lenalidomide 10 and 50 mg, the time-matched changes from placebo in the baseline-adjusted least-squares mean QTc were <3 ms and the upper limit of the two-sided 90 % CI for the change at all time points was <10 ms. After lenalidomide administration, no subject changed from baseline >60 ms or QTc >450 ms. Due to such outcomes, the study met the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) E14 definition of a negative thorough QT study. Lenalidomide concentrations up to 1522 ng/mL were not associated with QTc changes. The lenalidomide concentration range observed in the QT study was close to that observed in patients receiving lenalidomide doses up to 50 mg, including those with reduced drug clearance associated with RI. Therefore, lenalidomide is not anticipated to prolong QTc intervals in patients receiving therapeutic doses.
